Cultural Studies (in English)

CULTURAL STUDIES PHD PROGRAM (in ENGLISH)

Academic Unit: Humanities and Social Sciences

Program Objectives: Cultural Studies, an interdisciplinary program, seeks to understand the individual, society, “other” within the framework of complex meanings, and their relationship with each other, by introducing a holistic and critical view of the problems faced by today's societies. Although Cultural Studies emerged as an academic discipline related to critical theory and literary criticism,  it is an important discipline that focuses on the political dynamics, historical foundations, conflict and struggle areas of contemporary culture. In this sense, Cultural Studies focuses on cultural practice, meaning, message and code, how they are produced and disseminated, ideology, social class, nationality, ethnicity, gender and sexuality, how they relate to social meaning and power relations, identity, representation and expression of a critical view. The most important goal of the doctoral program in Cultural Studies, which focuses on cultural production and cultural policies, minorities, ethnicity, refugees, migration, media and society, gender and sexuality, is to contribute to the training of qualified academicians in the Cultural Studies field.
